Mountain pose- another one of my favorite poses for regulating my body with the breath.

While we normalize feelings of excitement, relief and happiness when we travel, traveling can also come with feelings of vacation anxiety and stress. When you think about it- this is normal! On vacation, we can be off our routine, lack sleep and have new stressor we encounter- especially if we are traveling somewhere new. Self care is crucial in all aspects of life but especially during travel. One of the ways I decrease stress and anxiety, is through breathing and yoga- even if it is only for 10 minutes in a day. Because let’s face it- when we are on the road, sometimes 10 minutes is all we have!

Below are some of my favorite poses to decrease anxiety. They are simple, beginner poses that not only calm you- but may feel amazing after traveling on an airplane or after a long road trip because you get some good stretches in! You do not have to do them in any particular order or hold them for any particular amount of time. I do encourage you to match your breathing with your movements.

1. The Dancer Pose

This pose can take a lot of practice because it is all about balance. What helps me is to focus my sights on one thing straight ahead of me. This is a pose where you can start off lower and work your way up.

2. The Eagle Pose

Eagle pose may take balance, but the twist is such a relief because it detoxes the body. For more intensity, you can lead forward. For less intensity, have both feet touching the ground.

3. The Butterfly Pose

The butterfly pose is very relaxing & a perfect time to make sure your posture is correct. I love this pose for travel because often times we are spending hours in the car or a cramped seat on the airplane.

4. The Mermaid Pose

After sitting for awhile, my legs desperately need a chance to stretch. The Mermaid pose allows me to stretch my thighs, calves, back and arms.

5. The Gate and Eagle Blend Pose

If you are wanting a more intense Eagle Pose, add the bend to it. This stretches out your back & can help with lower back pain.

6. The Half Seated Twist

I am a big fan of twist poses because they crack your back and twist out all of the toxins. Imagine the toxins leaving your spine as you twist it out. Make sure to do this move on both sides for balance.

7. The Child’s Pose

Ahhhh, child’s pose. I could fall asleep in this pose! If you are feeling, stressed, overwhelmed or like you need the world to slow down, it’s time to pause and practice your child’s pose.

8. The Leg-Up-The-Wall Pose

The leg up the wall poses regulates your heart rate and blood flow, decreasing your stress. Right when I get to my lodging area, I love to do this for a few minutes.

9. The Seated Twist Pose

Similar to the twist pose, this pose allows you to stretch out your legs. Make sure to do this pose on both sides as well.

10. The Bridge Pose

If you are feeling your back needs a good stretch and you are looking for something more intense, try out the bridge pose. Go slow if you are at a beginner’s level for yoga & work your way up.
