Cabin Season in the Midwest
There are times I want to travel to an iconic destination, yet want to have a remote place to get away from it all. When we planned a fall getaway to the Water Capital of the World, Wisconsin Dells, we knew there would be a lot of families traveling at peak fall season. We decided to have the best of both worlds and book a cabin 35 minutes north of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin in Westfield. Check out my list below of 10 Reasons to book your next family vacation at the Westfield A-Frame cabin during your visit at the Wisconsin Dells.

GETTING THERE
If you are flying into General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, WI, your drive from the airport to the Wisconsin Dells is about 2 hours. If you fly into Minneapolis, MN airport, your drive from the airport will be about 3 and a half hours. If you are coming from the Midwest area, the drive is not bad at all. We drove through Rochester and Winona, MN, where the bluffs are crowned the fall colors. From there we stopped in La Crosse, WI for coffee flights and breakfast at Jules Coffee House. We took the scenic route through the bluffs on HWY 14 east, then explored House on the Rock. House on the Rock is about 1 hour of Wisconsin Dells. During the fall time, it’s especially worth the drive!
ABOUT THE CABIN
Hidden in the woods is a lovely A-Frame Cabin in Westfield, WI. The cabin sits on 7.5 acres of land with a lovely creek running through the backyard. It is also near 400 acres of Wisconsin DNR land that you are able to explore. The cabin has an open floor plan with a loft and also has a sauna. There are two bedrooms plus the loft. There are 3 queen sized beds, 1 twin sized bed and a bunk bed as well. The house has 2 TVS with firesticks and 1 bathroom. In the back yard you will also find a porch with a grill and a fire pit with firewood if needed.
The property can accomodate up to 8 guests and on average has a nightly cost of $224. This cabin was a steal and it definitely was worth what we paid for! Read on to discover our favorite highlights at this relaxing, charming cabin.

10 REASONS TO STAY AT THE WESTFIELD A-FRAME CABIN
1. The View Alone is Worth It
The entire living room area has an A-Frame completely made out of glass. This provides the most lovely view of the pine trees with the creek running through the backyard. We enjoyed watching the sunset behind the housein the evening. Waking up to this view while I was making my morning coffee was heavenly.
2. Detox in the Sauna
One thing I have learned is it can be difficult to find rentals with saunas in the midwest. So when I saw the sauna- I knew this was the place for us during our Wisconsin Dells adventure! The sauna at this cabin is very spacious and completely relaxing. It’s in close proximity to the house and next to the front door. Everything you need is provided-guests just have to be sure to sign the waiver at the time you make the reservation.
3. Pack Light
One of my favorite things about this place is you can pack light. Kitchen appliances, coffee, all bedding, firewood, cooking basics, shampoo and conditioner is all provided. We brought our clothes, chargers and some of our own snacks and hygeine items. Overall, this enabled us to pack light even though we are a family of five. Another great asset is this cabin is remote, yet 5 minutes away from the town of Westfield, so getting food or supplies is convenient.
4. Enjoy a Fire
The host provides firewood and the cabin also has a neat little fire pin the backyard. Chairs and other supplies guests are able to get from the shed. We loved the string lights set up and the lovely pine trees surrounding us. You really get an amazing view of the starry night sky out here.
5. Relax by the Creek
One of our favorite things we did was relax in the backyard by the creek. We played cornhole, frisbee and watched the creek flow. Our kids especially loved this! It’s the little things that matter and our stay here was a great reminder of that.
6. Enjoy all the Space and Privacy
Although our trip was also about exploring the Wisconsin Dells area, we knew we wanted to stay somewhere remote. We wanted to be able to have fun in the downtown area of the Dells, but have somewhere to go back to that was “away from it all”- after all, we wanted this trip to be about connecting with one another and recharging our batteries! If this is something important to you- I promise you will find it here. The 7.5 acres is mostly a wooded area and you have plenty of places to explore. Plus, it’s only a 35 minute drive from the Wisconsin Dells area.
7. Experience the Amish Market
We enjoyed driving 5 minutes from the cabin to the Amish Market in Westfield. They have a coffee shop, ice cream shop as well as a lovely store and bakery. If you make it there, I reccommend the made made pretzels and banana bread!
8. Hike Beautiful State Parks
50 minutes from Westfield are two beautiful parks- Mirror Lake State Park and Devil’s Lake State Park. Both are known for their beauty. Mirror Lake State Park is excellent for those wanting to get out on the water. Devil’s Lake State Park offers trails leading to interesting rock formations and lovely overlooks.
9. Explore House on the Rock
An hour from Westfield by Spring Green, WI is the quirky, magical House on the Rock, tucked away in the bluffs. There really are no words to describe it- but it’s TOTALLY worth going! I promise you probably have never seen anything like it. There are 3 sections- if you want to do all 3, you must arrive before 230 pm (they close at 5pm). To get through everything & enjoy it could take you 3 hours. If you are doing the Ultimate Experience sections 2 and 3, by some tokens to use with the machines. Our favorite part was the giant carousel at the end and the sea heritage exhibit. The experience here completely immersed us!
Some areas are outside, so I would make sure you dress appropriately for the weather. There is also quite a bit of walking-make sure to wear comfy shoes!
10. Near Wisconsin Dells
Westfield is 35 minutes from Wisconsin Dells. The Wisconsin Dells alone has more than plenty to do- it is the water capital of the world, after all! I wanted to highlight the Wisconsin Dells in more detail from our experience, so I made an additional post, The Top 10 Reasons to Plan a Family Vacation to the Wisconsin Dells.
